Why I love it

The Shadow and Bone trilogy is a fascinating, multi-layered fantasy that excels in world-building, character development, and complex moral dilemmas. One of the standout features of this series is Bardugo’s remarkable world-building. The Grishaverse feels rich, lived-in, and alive with political intrigue and tension. The complex magic system, the social hierarchy of the Grisha, and the constant tension between light and dark are woven together seamlessly, providing readers with a fully immersive experience.

Alina Starkov, the protagonist, is a character many readers can relate to. She begins her journey as unsure and out of place, but her growth throughout the series is both satisfying and realistic. Her internal struggles, particularly around self-worth and responsibility, are portrayed with great sensitivity, allowing readers to empathize with her. The chemistry between Alina and the characters she interacts with—most notably the enigmatic Darkling and the fiercely loyal Mal—adds layers of emotional depth to the narrative.
